The Lord calls us to keep on following Him, persevering through the difficulties until we meet Him face to face (Hebrews 4:11). However weak we may be, God does not modify His Word to accommodate our sin, but He keeps on referring us back to His Word – the embodied Word of God, Jesus, and His spoken Word of God; and all of the written Word of God. God never contradicts Himself and always keeps His promises.

God's Word is always dynamic; it both speaks and sees because it communicates what God clearly knows about the past, present and future. Where human hearts tend to blur the edges of truth and lies, God's Word exposes that interface and alerts our consciences to stir us to action. Even our double-mindedness is exposed by His Word. When God speaks our conscience is sharpened, and our heart's desires are exposed for what they are, because there is no hiding place from the power of His laser-light which has a sharp cutting edge (Psalm 19:7-11).

God's speech is also His action (Genesis 1:3). In the same way that everything was created by His Word of command, so His Word reveals the motives of all we do and say and think: and through His Word, He will judge. When we meet Him on the final day, His Words will illuminate our souls and we will tell Him the truth of everything He has exposed in us (Romans 14:12). His Word has huge energy to see all of us and to reveal our love for Him, or otherwise.

That is one reason why Word@Work is so named. God's Word is not just a book on a shelf. It is an active and dynamic expression of God's all-seeing, all-knowing, all-penetrating and all-revealing heart. God is at work through His Word. Perhaps that is why we might sometimes wish to hide from it, or try to redefine it. But nothing is hidden from it; even if we try to ignore it. Of course, the Lord reveals His examination of our hearts to us, so that we might repent and get back on track with Him. Therefore, let God's Word work in Your heart; read and meditate on it, allow what He says to show the folly of Christless living and give you fresh desires to please Him (James 1:22-25).
